Earthquake
A powerful earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing panic among residents. The tremors were strongly felt in Swat, Chitral, and several other areas of the province, prompting people to rush out of their homes and workplaces in fear.
According to the seismological center, the earthquake’s epicenter was located in the Koh-i-Hindukush region at a depth of 198 kilometers. Due to its considerable depth, the tremors were felt across a wide region but did not immediately result in significant damage.
The earthquake also shook major cities such as Peshawar and Abbottabad, as well as surrounding districts. Residents in these areas reported feeling strong tremors, with many leaving their buildings as a precautionary measure.
Panic spread across multiple towns and cities as people experienced the ground shaking beneath them.
The tremors were also reported in Nowshera, Shangla, Swabi, and several other regions, adding to the widespread impact of the seismic activity.
However, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or infrastructural damage. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and gathering information to assess any potential aftershocks or secondary effects of the quake.
Earthquakes are not uncommon in the Hindukush region, which lies in an active seismic zone where tectonic movements frequently trigger tremors in northern Pakistan and surrounding areas.
In the past, strong earthquakes originating from this region have caused severe destruction. Given this history, authorities often urge residents to remain vigilant and prepared for any unexpected seismic activity.
While this earthquake did not cause immediate damage, its occurrence serves as a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to such natural disasters.
Officials continue to assess the situation, ensuring the safety of citizens and advising them on necessary precautions in case of future seismic activity.
