ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took missing children into protective custody upon their arrival at Islamabad International Airport from Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
The children, who had gone missing from Lahore in 2022, were the subject of yellow notices (global police alerts) issued by Interpol Pakistan for their recovery.
Upon the arrival of two missing children at New Islamabad Airport, the children were taken into protective custody based on the yellow notices and were subsequently handed over to the Lahore police.
An FIA spokesman stated that this was the first coordinated operation since the implementation of the Interpol system integrated with the Integrated Border Management System (IBMS).
The new Interpol system, implemented at airports along with the IBMS on the directive of FIA Director General Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir, enabled this successful operation.
The case of the missing children, identified as Muhammad Huzaifah and Ahmed Umais Abid, was reported to Barki Police Station in Lahore in 2022. Following their disappearance, Interpol Pakistan issued yellow notices for their recovery.
According to the FIA, the new system links the immigration database with the Interpol database, facilitating the tracing of missing children and their detention upon arrival in the country. This system also aids in the arrest of individuals with stolen passports and suspects wanted for serious crimes globally.
The Interpol Find System was implemented in April this year, said the spokesman.
The operation was a result of close coordination between Interpol Islamabad and FIA Immigration, Islamabad, who handed over the missing children to Lahore police.
In November 2022, a case was filed by the children’s maternal grandfather against his son-in-law, Abid Maqsood, for threatening his daughter Khadija and expelling her from his house.
Khadija had also filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court seeking custody of her children from her husband. Following the disappearance of the children, the Lahore police contacted FIA Interpol, which issued yellow notices after completing legal proceedings.
The children were taken into protective custody upon their arrival at New Islamabad Airport from Bishkek with their father, based on the yellow notices.
