ISLAMABAD: A wave of arrests has swept through the Parliament House, targeting several members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
According to sources, all MNAs present in the building were detained to prevent their escape.
Among those arrested early this morning were Zain Qureshi, Hamid Raza, and Waqas Akram. It is reported that prior to the arrests, the lights in the Parliament House were turned off.
The three MNAs had been at the Parliament House’s Service Center and had even eaten inside the building.
Sources suggest that the PTI is preparing to stage a strong protest during today’s National Assembly session in response to the arrests. The party claims that apprehending MNAs from within the Parliament House and at its gates is a violation of their rights, condemning the police action as an unprecedented act of fascism.
PTI members also intend to protest against Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, arguing that such arrests could not have occurred within Parliament House without his consent.
The Speaker’s office has so far remained silent, declining to respond to media inquiries about the incident.
