Seven people were killed, and at least eight others were injured in a shooting and stabbing terror attack in Jaffa on Tuesday evening, marking one of the deadliest attacks in Israel in recent years, according to Israel Police.
The attackers, armed with a rifle and a knife, targeted civilians on the Tel Aviv light rail before disembarking and continuing the assault on foot, shooting and stabbing people on Jerusalem Street in Jaffa. A municipal security officer, along with armed civilians, responded and “neutralized” the two terrorists, police reported.
The attackers were identified as Mehmed Khalaf Saher Rajab and Hassan Mohammed Hassan Tamimi, both Palestinian residents of Hebron in the West Bank.
Victims were transported to Wolfson Medical Center in Holon and Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv. The identities of the victims were not immediately released.
This brutal attack unfolded amid heightened tensions, as the Israel Defense Forces launched a ground incursion into Lebanon to push the Hezbollah group away from the border. The attack also occurred just minutes before Iran launched a large-scale missile strike on Israel.
Israel Police Commissioner Daniel Levy, who visited the scene, described the situation as a “grave incident.”
