Hamas has confirmed the death of a senior commander from its military wing, the Qassam Brigades, following an Israeli airstrike on his residence in northern Lebanon’s Beddawi refugee camp. The targeted individual, identified as Saeed Atallah Ali, held a prominent position within the Qassam Brigades, according to a report from Anadolu.
The airstrike, which hit Ali’s home, claimed the lives of Ali, his wife Shaimaa Khalil Azzam, and their two daughters, Zeinab and Fatima. In response, Hamas issued a statement saying that “the Israeli airstrike on the home of Saeed Ali resulted in his martyrdom along with his family.” The group further vowed retaliation, declaring that “Israel’s leadership will bear the consequences of their criminal actions against our people.”
This incident marks the second targeted killing of a Hamas leader in Lebanon within a week. Earlier, Fatah Sharif, another key Hamas figure, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on his home in the Burj al Shemali refugee camp, located in southern Lebanon. The consecutive strikes signal a continued escalation in Israel’s efforts to target Hamas commanders outside of Gaza, amid ongoing tensions between the two sides.
The deaths of these senior figures highlight the intensifying conflict in the region, with Israel increasingly focusing on Hamas leaders operating in Lebanon. In both cases, the airstrikes led to not only the loss of the commanders but also the deaths of their family members, further inflaming tensions.
Hamas has vowed retribution for the assassinations, reinforcing the cycle of violence that continues to shape the conflict between Israel and militant groups like Hamas.
