The Foreign Office spokesperson rejected what she termed the “frivolous” statement from the Afghan foreign ministry, calling it “unacceptable.” On Monday, Pakistan dismissed the Afghan government’s remarks regarding its political situation, urging the Afghan Interim Government (AIG) to focus on resolving its own domestic issues rather than lecturing a democratic nation.
In response to the unrest following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters’ march toward the federal capital, an Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson expressed concerns about rising tensions between the government and opposition party workers in Pakistan, suggesting it could negatively impact the region.
Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch characterized the Afghan statement as “deplorable” interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs. She emphasized, “Instead of lecturing a democratic country, the AIG should prioritize fixing its own domestic challenges, promoting inclusivity, and addressing the needs and aspirations of its people, including the right to education for women and girls, rather than restricting their rights.”
Baloch further urged the AIG to fulfill its commitments to the international community by denying support to terror groups that threaten regional peace and security, and by preventing Afghanistan from becoming a hub for global terrorism once again.
The spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace, dialogue, and regional cooperation, expecting all countries, including Afghanistan, to adhere to the norms of responsible international conduct and relations.
It’s important to note that law and order has been restored in the federal capital following days of unrest due to the PTI protests, during which authorities deployed tear gas and set up barriers to prevent the party’s march. The PTI, founded by Imran Khan, has launched a series of protests advocating for the “independence of the judiciary” and the release of its leader, who has been incarcerated in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for over a year.
Clashes also erupted between law enforcement and party workers, with both sides accusing each other of initiating attacks.
