Kangana Ranaut
Bollywood actress-turned-BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has officially announced the new release date for her much-anticipated film Emergency, which was initially scheduled for a September release but had to be postponed due to issues with its censor certificate.
The film, which marks Ranaut’s debut as a solo director, was initially slated for release on September 6. However, it faced a setback when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) revoked its clearance, citing concerns over its sensitive themes.
The board initially provided clearance but later called for several cuts before granting approval, which delayed the movie’s launch.
After weeks of uncertainty, Kangana took to her official X (formerly Twitter) account to announce that Emergency will now release in theaters on January 17, 2025.
In her post, she described the film as “The epic saga of the nation’s most powerful woman and the moment that altered India’s destiny.” She further emphasized that the movie would be unveiled only in cinemas, building excitement for the theatrical release.
The film revolves around the life and leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, a pivotal figure in India’s history. Kangana not only directed and produced the film but also plays the role of Indira Gandhi herself, marking a significant milestone in her career.
The movie delves into the political turbulence surrounding the Emergency period in India during the 1970s, a defining moment in the nation’s political landscape.
In addition to Kangana’s portrayal of Indira Gandhi, Emergency boasts a talented ensemble cast that includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and Ashok Chhabra.
Despite the delay, the film has generated considerable interest due to its bold theme and powerful storytelling, with many eager to see Kangana’s directorial debut on the big screen.
The film’s rescheduled release date sets the stage for a grand premiere in January, after overcoming the challenges posed by the CBFC’s revision process.
Fans and critics alike are eagerly awaiting the film’s launch, which promises to be a landmark event in both Kangana Ranaut’s career and Indian cinema.
