Germany, Britain, and France expressed grave concern on Monday over Iran’s accelerated uranium enrichment activities, urging Tehran to halt and reverse these advancements. Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), revealed on Friday that Iran is enriching uranium to up to 60% purity, nearing the 90% threshold required for weapons-grade material.
While uranium enrichment can fuel civilian nuclear power, it also has potential military applications. Iran has consistently denied pursuing nuclear weapons.
The E3 nations (Germany, Britain, and France) issued a joint statement condemning Iran’s increased production of 60%-enriched uranium at its Fordow underground facility. They also voiced alarm over the growing number of centrifuges in use and Iran’s preparations to install additional enrichment infrastructure, further expanding its capabilities.
The E3 highlighted that Iran’s moves undermine the 2015 nuclear deal and contribute to a stockpile of enriched uranium without any credible civilian purpose. They urged Tehran to immediately cease its nuclear escalation and reverse these steps.
