Defense Minister Khawaja Asif accused former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Faiz Hameed of orchestrating key political moves, stating that their collaboration began before the 2018 general elections and persisted through significant events, including May 9. Speaking outside the Parliament House, Asif claimed that Faiz Hameed played a pivotal role in facilitating PTI’s rise to power and influencing Senate elections. He suggested that emerging evidence could alter the situation dramatically.
Asif highlighted the oppression of political opponents during the PTI regime, alleging that civilians were tried in military courts, fabricated cases targeted opponents and their families, and corruption scandals implicated PTI’s founder and his wife. He questioned why PTI leaders remain silent on the sacrifices of security personnel.
In Parliament, Asif pointed to internal divisions within PTI, referencing Bushra Bibi’s remarks about her supporters abandoning her while others fled D Chowk. He alleged that Ali Amin Gandapur’s guards fired at PTI workers and accused KP government employees and policemen in plain clothes of joining Islamabad protests under the Chief Minister’s directives. Khawaja Asif condemned PTI’s repeated failed attempts to destabilize Islamabad and accused them of playing the provincial card.
He reminded that PTI’s earlier calls for civil disobedience and refusal to pay utility bills had fallen flat, as no Pakistani would halt financial support for their families.
