BANGLADESH: Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, has unveiled new measures aimed at simplifying the income tax filing process. Announced via his official Facebook page, the initiative targets individual taxpayers and corporate employees.
Under the new guidelines, residents of Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur—along with government employees, scheduled bank workers, telecom staff, and officials from various multinational corporations—are now required to file their tax returns online.
Yunus highlighted the crucial role taxes play in the nation’s economy, acknowledging the current challenges faced by taxpayers. However, he assured that significant changes are being introduced to streamline the process.
As part of the government’s broader digital tax administration campaign, Yunus encouraged taxpayers nationwide to follow suit. He also proposed a district-wise competition to boost digital tax filing participation, with awards for organizations that excel in encouraging engagement.
The Chief Adviser called on the public, particularly the youth, to embrace digital filing and help educate their peers and relatives, promoting digital literacy as a pathway to future entrepreneurial opportunities.
“We are gradually preparing to collect all types of taxes online,” Yunus said, outlining plans to make tax compliance easier and more accessible for everyone.
