Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to brief lawmakers regarding the ongoing negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as the government works to address political tensions.
Sources revealed on Saturday that the prime minister has called for a parliamentary party meeting in response to the frequent quorum breaches in the National Assembly. The meeting will be held at Parliament House, with all ministers and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders instructed to attend.
The premier, reportedly frustrated with the disruptions caused by the quorum violations, is seeking to ensure that the National Assembly proceedings continue smoothly. Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, had also raised concerns about the matter with the prime minister.
In addition to discussing quorum issues, the meeting will provide an opportunity for the lawmakers to be updated on the status of negotiations with PTI. These discussions are crucial in addressing key political challenges between the ruling coalition and the opposition.
Meanwhile, the third round of talks between PTI and the government’s negotiation committee concluded earlier this week on January 11, 2025, at Parliament House. This in-camera session follows two prior rounds of negotiations on December 27, 2024, and January 2, 2025, focused on resolving the political deadlock.
