The New Gwadar International Airport has officially commenced international flight operations, marking a significant milestone in the region’s connectivity and development.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) inaugurated the service with flight PK-197, which departed for Muscat on its maiden international journey. The flight carried 49 passengers and was followed by its return flight, PK-198, scheduled to arrive back in Gwadar later in the afternoon.
In addition to international services, PIA is also operating domestic flights from the new airport. Flight PK-504 is set to depart from Gwadar to Karachi at 2 PM, providing enhanced connectivity between key destinations within the country. These flight operations began on January 20.
Currently, PIA is using ATR aircraft for these routes due to the relatively low number of passengers. The ATR aircraft, known for its efficiency on short-haul routes, is being deployed as a temporary measure. However, if passenger demand increases, PIA plans to upgrade to Airbus planes to accommodate more travelers and improve the overall travel experience.
The launch of international flight operations from Gwadar Airport is expected to boost the region’s economic prospects and facilitate tourism and trade. This development aligns with efforts to strengthen Gwadar’s role as a critical hub in Pakistan’s infrastructure and connectivity initiatives.
As passenger numbers grow and demand for air travel from Gwadar increases, the airport is poised to handle larger aircraft and provide enhanced services. This initiative highlights Gwadar’s emerging importance as a gateway to international destinations and underscores Pakistan’s commitment to developing its aviation infrastructure.
The new airport’s operational advancements represent a significant step forward for Gwadar and its role in regional and global connectivity, paving the way for future growth and development in the area.
