The head of a United States investors’ delegation, Gentry Beach, stated on Wednesday that former Trump administration diplomat Richard Grenell had been misled by deepfake technology regarding Pakistan
Speaking to journalists, Beach refuted recent claims concerning Grenell and clarified, “Richard Grenell’s remarks about Pakistan were based on the information available to him at the time. However, he now has a much clearer understanding of the country’s current situation.”
He emphasized that Pakistan had made significant sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, with thousands of lives lost, and that the United States acknowledged these contributions, considering Pakistan an important ally.
Beach further revealed that Grenell had personally admitted to him that he had been misinformed by artificial intelligence-driven false briefings online. “I was misled by AI-generated content on the internet, which painted a misleading picture of the situation. This left me disheartened,” Beach quoted Grenell as saying.
He asserted that Grenell’s perspective had since evolved and that he now supported the initiatives underway in Pakistan.
Notably, Grenell, who served as a diplomat during the Trump administration, had previously posted multiple social media statements advocating for the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan. However, he has since deleted those posts.
