Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon announced on Friday that the province pioneered Pakistan’s first electric vehicle (EV) bus service, while Punjab has recently placed an order for 35 EV buses.
Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, Memon highlighted that Sindh had been at the forefront of sustainable public transport, having launched the EV bus service two years ago.
He further revealed plans to expand the province’s electric transport network. “We are acquiring additional EV buses for Karachi,” he stated.
Memon also shared that the government is preparing to introduce electric taxis in the near future. “The launch of EV taxis is on the agenda,” he confirmed.
Additionally, he announced an initiative aimed at empowering women in Karachi. “Pakistan’s first EV pink scooter service is being launched,” he said, adding that these electric scooters would be provided free of cost to women in the city.
