Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders, including Khursheed Shah, Shazia Marri, and Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah, to discuss the current political situation on Sunday. During his visit to Sadiq’s residence in Lahore, the Prime Minister also extended his congratulations to the NA deputy speaker on his son’s wedding. The group engaged in a discussion about the political landscape and the overall situation in the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz praised the efforts of his government in improving the economy, highlighting encouraging signs such as the positive economic indicators and the growing confidence of international investors and global financial institutions in Pakistan. He emphasized that both federal and provincial governments are collaborating for the welfare of the people.
It’s important to note that both parties—PPP and PML-N—have set up committees to address ongoing issues, with the Sindh-ruling party raising concerns that the PML-N has not honored its commitment to “give space” to the PPP in Punjab. PPP leaders have voiced these concerns on various TV shows, with the party pushing for greater representation in the province to increase its vote bank.
In December, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari criticized the PML-N for making unilateral decisions, stating that they do not have the mandate to do so. He expressed dissatisfaction with the PML-N’s approach to governance, accusing them of focusing solely on infrastructure projects like motorways and metro systems. Bilawal also criticized the government’s decision to withdraw canal water, describing it as a unilateral move, and announced plans to stage protests. He called for more consultative decision-making to ensure effective governance and expressed hope that their concerns would be taken seriously.
