ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Board of Directors has granted in-principle approval for a 15% salary increase for its employees, aligning wages with rising inflation.
A PIA spokesperson confirmed that this is the first salary revision in four years, with the last pay raise implemented in 2019. Since then, soaring inflation has significantly impacted employees, making it increasingly difficult for them to manage daily expenses.
The spokesperson emphasized that the salary adjustment is aimed at retaining experienced staff and preventing further talent drain. Over the years, PIA’s workforce has steadily declined, with the total number of employees now reduced to fewer than 7,000—a number that continues to shrink.
The issue of salary revision had been pending for a long time, with multiple requests made to the Privatization Commission and the financial adviser for approval. The recent decision marks a crucial step toward addressing employees’ financial concerns while ensuring PIA maintains a skilled and efficient workforce.
