A special delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived in Pakistan to conduct a detailed review of the country’s governance framework. This marks the first IMF team specifically focused on evaluating governance, judicial independence, judicial appointments, and anti-corruption efforts.
IMF representative Mahir Binci stated that the mission aims to examine technical aspects of the ongoing program. The review is scheduled to conclude by February 14, ahead of the next tranche release.
The IMF team will hold discussions with representatives from at least 19 government ministries and departments. Additionally, meetings are planned with the Judicial Commission and the Supreme Court of Pakistan to assess the rule of law, financial oversight, and anti-corruption measures.
A key meeting with the Judicial Commission next week will focus on judicial appointment procedures.
As part of the agreement, Pakistan is required to publicly release a comprehensive report on governance. The review will also include an in-depth analysis of tax policy implementation and governance challenges in land management.
