ISLAMABAD: Islamabad faced severe traffic disruptions on Monday morning as multiple road closures, ongoing construction, and the possibility of a lawyers’ protest created gridlock across the city.
The situation worsened with the suspension of Metro bus services on several routes, further straining commuters. Officials confirmed that buses operating between Rawalpindi and Islamabad were restricted to the Faiz Ahmed Faiz Station.
Additionally, the route from Kashmir Highway to the Pak Secretariat was shut down on orders from the district administration.
Heavy Police Deployment and Red Zone Sealing
A heightened police presence near Faizabad led to congestion on the Islamabad Expressway and Srinagar Highway. Security measures were further tightened as all entry and exit points to the Red Zone were sealed.
A police advisory stated that several key routes, including Serena, Nadra, Marriott, Express Chowk, and Tea Cross Bari Imam, would remain closed from 6 AM until further notice. Commuters were advised to use Margalla Road as an alternative.
Unexpected Underpass Closure Adds to Chaos
In the F-10 sector, an unannounced closure of the newly constructed underpass at F-8, blocked by large boulders and private security personnel, created further disruptions. The lack of prior notice led to confusion and significant delays, particularly during peak school hours.
Absence of Traffic Police Worsens Situation
The absence of traffic police on major roads compounded frustrations, leaving commuters stranded in prolonged jams with no assistance to manage the gridlock.
The morning commute across Islamabad turned into a test of patience for thousands, highlighting the urgent need for better traffic management and timely public communication.
