The Foreign Office (FO) announced on Monday that Pakistan’s embassy in Libya is gathering information on Pakistani nationals affected by a boat capsizing incident near Marsa Dela port.
The vessel, carrying around 65 passengers, capsized near the port, northwest of Zawiya city, Libya. This incident follows a tragic boat capsizing last month near Morocco, in which at least 13 Pakistanis lost their lives.
Reports suggest that over 40 Pakistanis were murdered by African human traffickers aboard that vessel, with only 22 out of approximately 66 Pakistanis surviving.
Embassy Response and Investigation
In an official statement, the FO confirmed that the Pakistani Embassy in Tripoli had dispatched a team to Zawiya Hospital to assist local authorities in identifying the deceased.
“The embassy is also working to ascertain further details regarding the affected Pakistani nationals,” the statement read.
It remains unclear whether the passengers aboard the capsized vessel were migrants.
