Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed with Al Nassr to extend his contract until June 2026.
While the renewal has been agreed upon, it has yet to be signed, with an official announcement expected in the coming days. Ronaldo, who turned 40 last week, was initially set to remain with Al Nassr until June 2025.
Since joining the club in January 2023, the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus forward has scored 82 goals in 90 matches. In August, Ronaldo hinted that he might see out the remainder of his career at Al Nassr, saying, “It may be soon or in two or three years, but it’ll most likely happen here, in the team that makes me happy.”
Initially seen as a move away from the footballing spotlight, Ronaldo’s transfer to Al Nassr in a reported $250 million deal has instead helped transform the Saudi Pro League, attracting a wave of high-profile players. His presence also coincided with Saudi Arabia securing the hosting rights for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, a key step in the kingdom’s ambitious sports and tourism strategy.
Ronaldo’s global influence remains unmatched. When he launched his YouTube channel in August, he amassed one million subscribers within 90 minutes and 20 million in just 24 hours. He currently boasts 73.5 million subscribers.
Despite an illustrious career that includes five Ballon d’Or awards and Champions League titles, Ronaldo is still chasing a major Saudi or continental trophy with Al Nassr. His only silverware with the club so far is the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup. However, as he approaches 1,000 career goals in official matches, new records continue to fuel his relentless pursuit of greatness.
