Pakistan and Sri Lanka have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through high-level engagements and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit in Dubai. This marked their first in-person interaction.
Both leaders highlighted the historical and deep-rooted ties between their nations, emphasizing the importance of building upon the existing goodwill. Discussions focused on key areas of cooperation, including trade, defense, security, education, religious tourism, and sports, as noted in the official press release.
President Dissanayake expressed his appreciation for the longstanding, brotherly relations between the two countries, fondly recalling the 1996 Cricket World Cup final in Lahore, a significant moment in the shared history of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
