Arrest Warrants
A Multan judicial magistrate, Shahid Hassan Mughal, has issued arrest warrants for multiple political figures, including the sons of former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, in a case linked to contempt of court and interference in government affairs during the enforcement of the COVID-19 ordinance.
The arrest warrants have been issued for Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) Abdul Qadir Gilani, Ali Musa Gilani, and Ali Qasim Gilani, as well as Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Ali Haider Gilani. These individuals, all belonging to the influential Gilani family, are now facing legal action due to their alleged involvement in the case.
The judicial order directs the Chehlek Police Station to apprehend the accused and ensure their presence before the court. Alongside the Gilani brothers, former MPA Usman Bhatti and 19 other individuals are also subject to arrest warrants.
The charges against them stem from violations of the COVID-19 ordinance and obstruction of official duties, which were formally registered at the Chehlek Police Station.
According to court documents, the accused had been summoned multiple times but repeatedly failed to appear before the judicial authorities. Their continuous non-compliance led to the issuance of the arrest warrants.
The case highlights the judiciary’s firm stance against those who disregard legal proceedings and fail to respond to official summons.
The allegations against the accused revolve around interference in governmental operations during the enforcement of COVID-19 measures.
The court’s move indicates a significant legal development that could have political implications, especially considering the high-profile status of those involved.
With the arrest warrants now in effect, law enforcement agencies are expected to take immediate action. It remains to be seen how the accused will respond to this development and whether they will seek legal remedies such as anticipatory bail or challenge the warrants in a higher court.
This case continues to unfold, drawing attention to the legal responsibilities of public officials and the judiciary’s role in ensuring accountability.
