The newly renovated Karachi Stadium has been officially handed over to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in preparation for the upcoming Champions Trophy, set to commence on February 19.
The tournament will kick off with Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match. The grand opening ceremony will also take place at Karachi Stadium, with preparations accelerating to ensure a seamless event.
Upgraded Facilities for the Tournament
As part of the handover process, the stadium is being equipped with ICC-mandated branding, while broadcasters have begun setting up production facilities to meet global standards. Advanced technology installations, including the baggy cam, spider cam, and hawkeye system, are also underway to enhance match coverage.
Additionally, ICC officials, match referees, and units for anti-corruption and anti-doping measures will operate from the stadium’s newly developed building. Cameras for match referees and tournament organizers have also been set up, and a comprehensive review of the command and control center has been conducted to ensure smooth operations.
Pakistan Aims to Defend Their Champions Trophy Title
Pakistan will enter the competition as the defending champions, having last won the title in 2017.
However, the Indian cricket team has opted out of traveling to Pakistan, citing security concerns. As a result, their matches will be played under a hybrid model, with fixtures relocated to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
With the tournament just days away, anticipation is building as Pakistan gears up to host a major ICC event on home soil.
