Pakistan has introduced a mobile application, “Pak ID,” to streamline the visa-on-arrival process for citizens of 120 eligible countries, making travel to the country more convenient.
Developed by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the app allows users to apply for business and tourist visas, track application status in real time, and complete the process within 24 hours instead of the traditional multi-day wait.
The “Pak ID” app features facial recognition, document scanning, and photo upload capabilities, enabling applicants to complete the process remotely without needing to visit physical offices. This move enhances accessibility for both tourists and business travelers while supporting the digitization of Pakistan’s visa system.
Currently, Pakistan’s visa policy accommodates citizens from 192 countries. With this new app, applicants can receive notifications and track their visa status directly from their mobile devices. The initiative aims to boost tourism and facilitate smoother entry procedures for international visitors.
Additionally, the app simplifies identity card applications for overseas Pakistanis, reinforcing NADRA’s ongoing efforts to modernize administrative services through technology. However, at this stage, it only supports applications for Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA); other visa types still require processing via the POVS website.
The app is available for free download on Android and iOS and is expected to enhance Pakistan’s tourism and business engagement by reducing bureaucratic hurdles and making the visa process more user-friendly.
Expansion of Passport Services & Indian Journalists’ Visas
In a related development, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated a 24/7 passport office at NADRA’s Mega Center in Karachi’s North Nazimabad area. The new facility aims to provide uninterrupted services for national identification and passport applications.
During his visit, Minister Naqvi interacted with applicants and staff, inspecting service counters and reaffirming the government’s commitment to resolving public service issues.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has granted visas to all Indian journalists who applied to cover the ICC Champions Trophy. According to sources, seven Indian journalists applied for visas, and all applications were approved without rejection.
