Under the directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has established a special subcommittee to enhance the performance of Pakistan’s embassies worldwide.
Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Bilal Azhar Kayani has been appointed as the convener of the eight-member subcommittee, with an official notification issued in this regard.
The subcommittee is set to hold its first meeting tomorrow, chaired by Kayani. Its members include additional secretaries from the Ministries of Interior, Commerce, Finance, and Information and Broadcasting. Additional secretaries from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the joint secretary of the Cabinet Division’s Institutional Reforms Cell, will also participate.
The committee will evaluate the overall performance, structure, and challenges faced by Pakistani embassies. It plans to individually summon ambassadors for their insights and suggestions. The subcommittee will also assess the political and economic initiatives undertaken by the embassies.
Additionally, the committee will examine the staffing levels and nature of work at embassies across different countries. It aims to propose actionable measures to improve performance and recommend reforms aligned with current circumstances. The committee will outline national objectives and targets for embassies based on Pakistan’s strategic priorities.
To ensure effective oversight, the subcommittee will develop mechanisms to evaluate the performance of embassies and diplomats. It may seek input from experts and diplomatic professionals to fulfill its mandate.
Pakistani ambassadors abroad have been directed to extend full cooperation and support to the subcommittee.
