Pakistan’s security forces eliminated at least six terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Friday, according to a statement from the military’s media wing.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the operation was launched following intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in the area.
“During the operation, security forces effectively targeted the hideout, resulting in the elimination of six militants,” the statement read.
A sanitization operation was also carried out to clear the area of any remaining threats, underscoring the security forces’ commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country.
Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in militant activity, with terror incidents surging by 42% in January 2025 compared to the previous month, according to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
The report documented 74 militant attacks across the country, leading to 91 fatalities, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Additionally, 117 people sustained injuries, comprising 53 security personnel, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained the most affected province, followed by Balochistan. In KP’s settled districts, militants carried out 27 attacks, resulting in 19 deaths, including 11 security personnel, six civilians, and two militants.
Meanwhile, KP’s tribal districts (formerly FATA) experienced 19 attacks, leading to 46 fatalities, which included 13 security personnel, eight civilians, and 25 militants.
