A body was recovered from the outhouse (dera) of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the Punjab Assembly (MPA) Mian Aslam Iqbal in Lahore on Monday.
Police have registered a case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and collected forensic evidence from the scene.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition, belonged to a man approximately 40 years old. The victim had sustained gunshot wounds, but his identity has not yet been determined. The body has been sent for an autopsy.
Authorities revealed that Aslam’s outhouse was rented by Arshad, a constable affiliated with the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) police. Investigators allege that Arshad had set up a torture cell at the premises. He has been missing since the discovery of the body, and a search is underway to locate him.
Mian Aslam Iqbal, a PTI-backed MPA, previously held the position of Punjab’s Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Investment from 2018 to 2022. In 2019, he was also assigned the additional portfolio of Information and Culture. He has been a member of the Punjab Assembly since 2002 and later served as the senior minister for Punjab during the PTI-backed government of Parvez Elahi from late 2022 to early 2023.
