The ongoing rain in Rawalpindi has delayed the toss for the Champions Trophy 2025 match between Australia and South Africa, initially scheduled for 1:30 pm on Tuesday.
Intermittent showers are expected to continue throughout the day, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicting a cloudy, cool day with sporadic rain. According to forecasts, there is a 64% chance of precipitation, with about 0.10 inches of rain expected over the next two hours. Although thunderstorms are not anticipated, the persistent rain has prompted stadium staff to cover the pitch with sheets in an effort to protect the field.
Both teams enter this match with strong momentum, having secured victories in their opening games of the tournament.
Australia began their campaign with a thrilling win over England at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Despite England posting a massive total of 351/8 — the highest score in Champions Trophy history — Australia chased it down in just 47.3 overs. Josh Inglis played a starring role, scoring an explosive 120 off 86 balls, while Alex Carey contributed a solid 69 off 63. Glenn Maxwell’s quick-fire 32 off 15 balls helped seal the victory.
Meanwhile, South Africa dominated Afghanistan in their opening match, winning by 107 runs. After posting a formidable 315/6, the Proteas bowled Afghanistan out for just 208. Ryan Rickelton was the standout with the bat, scoring 103 off 106 balls, while captain Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram also made significant contributions, with half-centuries to their names.
