ISLAMABAD: The Federal Ministry of Poverty Alleviation announced the Nisab-i-Zakat for 2025, setting the threshold amount at Rs 179,689 for this year.
Zakat will be deducted from savings accounts, profit and loss accounts, and similar accounts, while current accounts will be exempted from deductions.
In line with tradition, banks will remain closed for public transactions on the first day of Ramazan to facilitate Zakat deductions.
Last week, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) announced the minimum Fitrana (charity) and Fidya (compensation) amounts for Ramazan. The minimum Fitrana has been set at Rs220 per person, based on the price of wheat.
Other options include Rs450 for barley, Rs1,650 for dates, Rs2,500 for raisins, and Rs5,000 for dried figs (Munakka).
Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet in Peshawar on February 28 (Thursday) to observe the Ramazan moon sighting. The meeting, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, will begin after the Asr prayer.
