KARACHI: Karachi police have arrested two security guards of Balochistan politician Shahzain Mari for allegedly assaulting two individuals in the Boat Basin area.
The arrests were made after CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media, sparking public outrage and calls for justice.
According to DIG South, the main suspect, Shahzain Mari, has fled to Balochistan, while police recovered modern firearms from the detained guards. The assault reportedly occurred on February 19 around 3 am. A case has been registered against the suspects.
In a video statement, one of the victims described how influential individuals attacked him and his friend while they were out for a meal. He claimed the attack was triggered when a vehicle behind them collided with their car and its occupants behaved rudely.
“When will the VIP culture in our society come to an end?” the victim questioned.
Previous Allegations
This is not the first controversy involving Shahzain Mari. In April 2023, police raided his residence following a shooting incident at a Karachi Sea View restaurant, where the manager was wounded.
According to the police, Mari allegedly opened fire on the restaurant staff for delaying his order and was intoxicated at the time. However, during the raid, only one of his security guards was arrested, as Mari was not present.
Police are continuing their search for Mari while further investigations are underway.
