ISLAMABAD: At least nine civilians lost their lives, and 16 others were injured as security forces thwarted a terrorist attack on Bannu Cantt, eliminating six militants in the process.
According to security sources, the terrorists launched their assault shortly after Iftar, attempting to infiltrate Bannu Cantt. However, the swift response of security forces prevented their plan from succeeding.
In a desperate move, the attackers rammed two explosive-laden vehicles into the Cantt’s wall, triggering powerful explosions that caused significant damage, including to a nearby mosque. The blasts also led to the collapse of a house’s roof, resulting in civilian casualties.
Security personnel managed to neutralize six militants at various entry points while confining the remaining attackers to a specific area.
A clearance operation remains underway, with security sources affirming that it will continue until all threats are fully eliminated.
