A powerful explosion in Nal tehsil of Khuzdar on Wednesday claimed five lives and injured seven others, spreading panic in the area.
The blast occurred near a market, setting several vehicles and motorcycles on fire. According to police sources, the explosives were planted on a motorcycle and appeared to target tribal leader Abdul Samad Samalani, who sustained critical injuries.
Among the deceased, three have been identified as Obaidullah, Munir Ahmed, and Nadir, while the identities of the remaining victims are yet to be confirmed.
Following the explosion, rescue teams and law enforcement agencies, including police and the Levies Force, reached the site, secured the area, and initiated an investigation. The injured were transported to Khuzdar CMH and Teaching Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Authorities are analyzing the nature of the blast while reinforcing security in the region. Edhi sources confirmed the death toll has reached five, with concerns that the number of casualties may rise as some victims remain in critical condition.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Security Situation in the Region
The incident comes a day after security forces thwarted a terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 16 terrorists, including four suicide bombers, were eliminated in the operation. However, five soldiers lost their lives, and 13 civilians were killed, while 32 others sustained injuries.
ISPR reported that the attackers attempted to breach the cantonment’s security by ramming two explosive-laden vehicles into its walls. Evidence suggests the involvement of Afghan nationals in the attack, which also caused structural damage.
