The National Logistics Corporation (NLC) has introduced Pakistan’s first containerized flag carrier shipping service to the Gulf region, marking a significant step in the country’s maritime trade expansion.
The service will commence operations with two vessels, with plans for gradual expansion to accommodate increasing trade demands. An inauguration ceremony was held at Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited, attended by senior NLC officials, business leaders, and representatives from the shipping industry.
The cargo ships, each with a capacity of 1,120 TEUs, will follow a 10-day round-trip schedule, ensuring efficient goods transportation between Karachi, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia.
This initiative marks the first direct shipping service operated by a Pakistani entity for trade between Karachi and the Gulf. Additionally, it allows slot payment collection in Pakistani rupees, facilitating local businesses.
Aligned with the government’s strategy to strengthen trade relations with Gulf nations, the new service is expected to enhance regional trade connectivity and boost Pakistan’s maritime sector.
