Maulana Abdul Haq Sani, son of the late Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani, has been unanimously appointed as the central emir of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) during the party’s Central Council meeting at Jamia Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak.
His appointment follows the martyrdom of his father, Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani, who was killed in a suicide bombing at the Jamia Darul Uloom Haqqania mosque on February 28, an attack that claimed the lives of seven others. The meeting, attended by representatives from all four provinces, also appointed Sheikhul Hadith Mufti Habibur Rahman Darkhwasti as patron-in-chief and Maulana Khuzaima Sami as the central information secretary.
During the session, prayers were offered for Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq, and participants demanded swift justice for his assassination. Concerns were raised over the silence of both central and provincial governments regarding the incident, as well as the escalating violence against religious scholars in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The council condemned the recent attacks, including the bombing targeting Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Waziristan’s leader Maulana Abdullah Nadeem in Wana and the assassination of Mufti Muhammad Munir Shakir in Peshawar. The government and security institutions were urged to ensure the protection of religious scholars rather than treating them as adversaries.
