Hassan Nawaz, the son of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been declared a tax defaulter in the United Kingdom, with the British government imposing a £5.2 million fine on him.
According to a list published on the UK Revenue and Customs website, Hassan Nawaz failed to pay around £9.4 million in taxes for the period between April 5, 2015, and April 6, 2016. The British tax authorities also provided details of the case on an official government website, listing his residential address as Avenfield House, Park Lane.
Legal experts have pointed out that while Hassan Nawaz is reportedly bankrupt, UK tax laws do not provide exemptions from penalties for defaulters, meaning the fine could still be pursued for recovery. Media reports indicate that the British government is resolute in enforcing tax laws, regardless of an individual’s financial standing.
