IMF Programs
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that nations do not achieve progress through International Monetary Fund (IMF) programs, stressing that Pakistan has already attained the stability it requires. He made these remarks while addressing the launch ceremony of the Prime Minister Digital Youth Hub.
During his speech, he reiterated that the $1 billion loan from the IMF is not Pakistan’s earned income but rather borrowed funds. He expressed hope that this would be the last IMF program in the country’s history, emphasizing the need to move beyond reliance on loans.
He highlighted the importance of transforming Pakistan’s debt-ridden state into one of dignity and self-sufficiency through skill development and hard work.
The prime minister also pledged to cut government expenditures while making substantial investments in the younger generation’s education and skill development. He stressed that the government is willing to allocate billions, even trillions, to ensure a prosperous future for the youth.
Recalling his tenure as the chief minister of Punjab, he mentioned that he had distributed 400,000 laptops to high-achieving students in schools and colleges. He described this initiative as part of a broader vision to equip young people with modern tools for success.
Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged that Pakistan’s youth represents both a challenge and an opportunity. He stated that if provided with training in information technology, artificial intelligence, and other modern fields, they could play a significant role in the country’s progress and economic development.
Chairman of the Prime Minister Youth Programme, Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan, also addressed the event. He highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering young people by opening new opportunities for them. He explained that through the PM Digital Youth Hub, youth will be able to benefit from various sectors, including sports, tourism, IT, and the green economy.
On this occasion, United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Officer In-charge Sharmeela Rasool described the initiative as a platform of opportunity and hope. She noted that the program aims to empower youth and help them become productive members of society.
UN Resident Coordinator Muhammad Yahya added that the Digital Youth Hub is designed to enable young people to explore their full potential. He described this initiative as the beginning of a journey toward development and prosperity for Pakistan.
The launch of the PM Digital Youth Hub reflects the government’s commitment to fostering skill development and self-reliance among the younger generation. The initiative is expected to create new opportunities, enhance economic stability, and pave the way for a more prosperous future.
