Anti-Harassment Drive
Lahore police have arrested three individuals disguised in burqas for harassing and disturbing women in Valencia Town Market. This arrest is part of a larger crackdown on harassment, which led to the detention of six individuals across various commercial centers in the city last night.
According to police reports, the three suspects—identified as Ali, Zohaib, and Faizan—were apprehended by officers from the Haloki police station while patrolling the market area. The accused were allegedly targeting families shopping for Eid, causing distress to women and creating an uncomfortable environment.
Following their arrest, a formal case was registered, and the investigation has been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) for Model Town emphasized that stringent security measures have been put in place at key locations to safeguard women during the busy shopping season. He assured that law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to prevent harassment and ensure a secure environment for citizens.
To strengthen these efforts, a Women’s Police Squad has been established to provide enhanced security in shopping centers and marketplaces. This specialized unit is conducting regular foot and bicycle patrols in crowded areas, ensuring a visible police presence to deter potential harassers.
As part of their recent operations, the squad successfully detained six additional individuals for harassing women in public spaces.
Recognizing that incidents of harassment and theft tend to increase in the days leading up to Eid, police have deployed “friendly patrol” units in 65 major commercial areas across Lahore. These patrols aim to discourage criminal activity and provide reassurance to shoppers.
Locals have expressed relief over the heightened security measures, with many reporting a greater sense of safety due to the increased police presence.
Officers involved in these patrols have stated that their visibility in marketplaces is proving effective in preventing harassment and deterring potential offenders.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities immediately and assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in harassment or other criminal acts. The police remain committed to maintaining order and ensuring that families can shop without fear during the festive season.
