Army Chief and his team played a crucial role in the country’s economic revival, says Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a reduction in electricity prices, emphasizing that providing relief to the public remains the government’s top priority. He also commended the instrumental role played by Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir in facilitating this process, highlighting his full cooperation for the country’s economic recovery.
During an event in Islamabad celebrating the reduction in electricity prices, the Prime Minister shared that while the current price of electricity for domestic consumers is Rs 45.05 per unit, it will be reduced to Rs 34.37 per unit following the cut.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised General Asim Munir and his team for their pivotal role in restoring Pakistan’s economy. He acknowledged the Army Chief’s support, which he said was vital not only for the government but also for the people of Pakistan. The Prime Minister emphasized that through the nation’s sacrifices and with Allah’s help, Pakistan has made substantial progress towards economic stability, managing to reduce inflation to single digits.
The Prime Minister further stated, “I openly recognize the full cooperation of Army Chief General Syed Muhammad Asim Munir and his team throughout this process. Their contributions were crucial.”
He added that the efforts of every individual involved in this achievement had been accepted by Allah, and although the country has made significant progress, the path ahead will be challenging and require even greater dedication.
The Prime Minister reflected on the hardships faced by the people in the past, stating that there was a time when pensioners, after paying their electricity bills, struggled to find money for their children’s medicine. He recalled a time when paying an electricity bill left families in dire situations, unable to afford basic necessities.
He also pointed out the plight of shopkeepers, investors, and industrialists who were forced to close their businesses due to high costs, with factories shutting down as production ceased.
However, the Prime Minister highlighted the country’s positive progress, stating that, thanks to divine grace, the nation’s prayers, and the government’s efforts, inflation has been reduced from 38% to just 1.5%. The interest rate has dropped from 22.5% to 12%, and the price of petrol has been lowered by up to 38 rupees. Even today, the price of petrol in Pakistan remains lower than in other parts of the region.
