Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian engaged in a significant conversation about regional developments and mutual interests, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Friday morning.
The phone call, which took place on Thursday afternoon, was an opportunity for both leaders to exchange Eid al-Fitr greetings while also discussing a range of pressing issues in the Middle East.
In their discussion, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran has never pursued war or conflict and reiterated that the Islamic Republic does not seek to use nuclear energy for non-peaceful purposes.
He stressed that the peaceful use of nuclear energy remains central to Iran’s defense and security strategy, further stating, “Iran is ready to engage in dialogue to alleviate certain tensions based on mutual interests and respect.”
Pezeshkian underscored that although Iran does not seek war with any nation, it remains fully prepared to defend itself, asserting that the country’s defense capabilities are at their peak.
The Iranian president also offered a solution to the ongoing concerns about Iran’s nuclear program, proposing that Iran could once again place its nuclear activities under a full verification mechanism to confirm their peaceful intent, similar to previous years.
This gesture of transparency is an attempt to defuse international apprehensions regarding the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
On the other hand, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman responded positively, noting that both Iran and Saudi Arabia, along with other regional countries, have the potential to play a significant role in strengthening peace and stability in the West Asia region.
MBS also expressed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to contribute to de-escalating tensions and improving security in the area, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between regional powers.
The conversation between the two leaders marked a moment of diplomatic exchange at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East.
The phone call concluded with both leaders extending warm Eid al-Fitr greetings to their respective nations and officials. This dialogue signals a potential thaw in relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, providing hope for future cooperation and stability in the region.
