ISLAMABAD: A police vehicle escorting the Japanese Ambassador in Mansehra plunged into a ravine on Monday, injuring five police officials, including two women, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred while the security convoy was en route from Makriya Jindwal, with initial police reports attributing the crash to a brake failure.
Despite the severity of the accident, the Japanese Ambassador and his staff emerged unscathed. The ambassador had just concluded his visit to an event in Jindwal and was returning when the mishap occurred.
Sardar Shehjan Yusuf, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the party’s parliamentary head in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, was also traveling in the convoy but was not injured.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash, and the injured officers are currently receiving medical treatment.
