In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing money laundering probe connected to the high-profile murder of Mustafa Amir, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has formally requested Interpol to issue a ‘Silver Notice’ against the primary suspect, Armaghan Qureshi.
According to FIA sources, this rare move would enable Pakistan to identify Armaghan’s assets across 193 countries and potentially freeze his foreign bank accounts.
“The Silver Notice would significantly bolster our efforts to trace and repatriate the funds laundered abroad,” an official closely involved in the case remarked.
If granted, this would be only the second Silver Notice ever issued globally, marking a landmark action in Pakistan’s crackdown on international financial crimes.
Suspect Linked to Murder and Organized Crime
Armaghan stands accused in the brutal killing of DHA resident Mustafa Amir, who was reportedly murdered on January 6, with his body and vehicle later found burned in Balochistan. Investigations have connected Armaghan to various criminal activities including drug trafficking, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, and possession of illegal arms.
During court proceedings, Armaghan collapsed and accused law enforcement of custodial torture. He claimed the police transported him to Balochistan and threatened to kill him, drawing public attention to alleged abuse during detention.
Expanding International Probe
The FIA suspects that Armaghan funneled large sums of illicit money through a global network. The agency is currently preparing a comprehensive dossier to be shared with Interpol, with the goal of expanding the investigation beyond national borders and initiating international asset recovery.
Coordination is also underway between the FIA, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) to map the full extent of Armaghan’s criminal and financial operations.
Meanwhile, investigators are analyzing data from a laptop seized during a raid at Armaghan’s home. The FIA’s cybercrime wing is reviewing the contents, which include a chilling audio recording believed to be the final message from victim Mustafa Amir. The audio is undergoing forensic testing.
