ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed on Thursday for a two-day official visit to the Republic of Belarus at the invitation of President Aleksandr Lukashenko, marking a continued push to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
Accompanying the Prime Minister is a high-level delegation that includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and other senior government officials.
This visit follows President Lukashenko’s landmark trip to Pakistan in November 2024, during which both countries signed over a dozen key memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements. The engagements reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in a range of sectors, including trade, technology, agriculture, and education.
Both leaders had previously stressed the importance of advancing political dialogue, building stronger inter-parliamentary relations, and pursuing regional economic integration through enhanced connectivity and a strengthened legal framework.
During the current trip, Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to hold one-on-one talks with President Lukashenko to review progress in mutual areas of interest and finalize new agreements aimed at enhancing collaboration.
This visit builds on recent momentum, including the 8th Session of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) in February 2025 and a high-powered mixed ministerial delegation’s visit to Belarus in April. These high-level interactions have laid a strong foundation for meaningful progress.
A number of new agreements are expected to be signed during this visit, further reinforcing Pakistan’s growing partnership with Belarus. PM Shehbaz’s trip underscores Islamabad’s continued focus on fostering strategic international partnerships and advancing its economic diplomacy agenda.
