LAHORE: The Punjab government has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing the construction of 1,562 houses under its flagship low-cost housing initiative, ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’.
According to official figures, more than Rs26.97 billion in loans have been disbursed to over 25,500 households as part of the program. Currently, 21,797 houses are in the final stages of construction throughout the province, reflecting the massive scale and reach of the initiative.
In addition to completed and ongoing constructions, second instalments for home building have been issued to more than 11,500 families, further pushing forward the government’s affordable housing agenda. Authorities have also approved an additional 1,106 housing loans to maintain the program’s momentum.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Hails Progress
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed her satisfaction with the progress of the initiative, calling it a testament to the vision of Nawaz Sharif. She said the program was “changing lives and spreading happiness among thousands of families in Punjab.”
“The joy of witnessing each newly completed home is indescribable,” she remarked, reaffirming her commitment to achieving all set targets.
“My team and I remain fully dedicated to ensuring every deserving family gets a roof over their head.”
Loan Structure Under ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’
The program offers flexible and affordable loan packages tailored to urban, rural, and metropolitan settings:
- Rural Areas:
Loans up to Rs1.5 million for houses measuring up to 10 marlas, with monthly instalments of Rs14,000. - Urban Areas:
Loans up to Rs1.5 million for homes up to 5 marlas, repayable in Rs14,000 monthly instalments. - Major Cities:
Four-story apartment buildings are being constructed on government-owned land. These flats will be allotted through a lottery system and provided on easy instalments.
Support for Private Housing Schemes
To widen the program’s scope, the government is also collaborating with private housing schemes, offering homes between 3 to 5 marlas. A government subsidy of up to Rs1 million per house is being provided to eligible families to make homeownership more accessible.
The ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ program marks a bold step in Punjab’s efforts to tackle the housing crisis, uplift low-income communities, and fulfil the dream of homeownership for thousands across the province.
