ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has announced the launch of several major motorway projects in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including the construction of the Sukkur-Hyderabad and Karachi motorways, as part of a broader plan to enhance national connectivity.
Chairing a high-level meeting of the National Highway Authority (NHA) Central Zone, the minister revealed that two significant motorway projects—M6 and M9—worth $2 billion, are set to begin in Sindh this year.
In addition to Sindh, he confirmed that planning is also underway for the Mansehra-Naran and Kaghan motorways in KP, with construction expected to start within the same timeframe.
“These projects are part of the government’s vision to improve road infrastructure across Pakistan,” Abdul Aleem Khan stated. “We are focused on timely execution and quality development.”
In Balochistan, he noted that work is already underway to upgrade the N25 highway—linking Quetta to Karachi—into a modern four-lane expressway built to motorway standards.
The minister stressed that all projects would adhere to set timelines, with fortnightly progress reviews to ensure strict monitoring and accountability.
He also urged NHA officials to improve the quality and effectiveness of their project presentations and called for aesthetic improvements at city entry points managed by the authority.
During his visit to the NHA headquarters, Abdul Aleem Khan planted a sapling as part of a green initiative and instructed that a joint meeting be held with the Ring Road Authority to enhance coordination on upcoming infrastructure developments.
