As tensions between Pakistan and India escalate following the deadly attack on tourists in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar held a high-level security briefing for senior political figures across party lines.
Political leaders including PML-N’s Khurram Dastgir and Abid Sher Ali, PM’s Adviser on Interior Pervez Khattak, and MQM’s Dr. Farooq Sattar convened at the state television headquarters to receive updates on the evolving situation.
Other notable attendees included JUI-F’s Noor Alam Khan, Senator Abdul Shakoor, BAP Senator Abdul Qadir, Sindh ministers Nasir Hussain Shah, Sharjeel Memon, Saeed Ghani, and PML-N’s Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha.
The briefing comes amid heightened hostility between the two nuclear-armed neighbors since the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, IIOJK, where 26 tourists were killed. India, without presenting evidence, blamed Pakistan for the incident and initiated several retaliatory measures — suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, revoking visas of Pakistani citizens, and shutting down the Wagah-Attari border crossing.
In a reciprocal move, Pakistan expelled Indian diplomats and military officials, revoked visas for Indian nationals (except Sikh pilgrims), and sealed the main border checkpoint from its side.
Rejecting India’s allegations, Pakistan reiterated its non-involvement in the attack and expressed willingness to participate in an impartial and transparent investigation.
