The Foreign Office of Pakistan issued a strong condemnation early Wednesday, denouncing what it described as India’s unprovoked and blatant act of war and violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.
In an official statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan expressed grave concern over India’s actions, stating that the Indian Air Force, while remaining within its own airspace, used standoff weapons to target civilian areas inside Pakistani territory.
These strikes reportedly took place across the international border in Muridke and Bahawalpur, as well as across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kotli and Muzaffarabad, in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the spokesperson, India’s aggression resulted in the loss of innocent civilian lives, including women and children, and posed a serious threat to commercial air traffic in the region. He emphasized that such conduct by the Indian military constitutes a clear violation of Pakistan’s territorial sovereignty and is inconsistent with both the United Nations Charter and established international laws governing relations between states.
The FO characterized the attack as a “cowardly action” that breached long-standing norms of inter-state behavior and heightened the risk of a regional confrontation.
In the context of the recent attack in Pahalgam, the spokesperson criticized the Indian leadership for once again exploiting the issue of terrorism to bolster what he called a “sham narrative of victimhood.” He warned that by doing so, India is undermining regional peace and escalating tensions unnecessarily.
The Pakistani government views this pattern as a deliberate attempt to distract from internal challenges and to provoke a military confrontation with its neighbor.
The statement further cautioned that India’s reckless actions have brought the two nuclear-armed countries dangerously close to a major conflict. As the situation continues to unfold, Pakistan reserves the right to respond at a time and place of its choosing.
This stance, according to the spokesperson, aligns with Article 51 of the UN Charter, which affirms a state’s inherent right to self-defense.
Reaffirming national resolve, the spokesperson stated that the government, armed forces, and citizens of Pakistan remain united in the face of aggression and stand ready to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity with determination and strength.
