Government Leaves
In response to the rapidly evolving security situation in the region, the Punjab government has announced the immediate suspension of all forms of leave for employees across government departments. This directive was issued through an official notification released by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) on Tuesday.
According to the notification, no government officer or employee in Punjab will be permitted to avail any kind of leave until further orders are issued. The decision has been taken “in view of the emergent situation,” although the government has refrained from elaborating on the specific threat in the official communication.
However, the move comes amid a sharp escalation in tensions between Pakistan and India, following reports of an Indian airstrike late Monday night. According to military sources, the Indian Air Force launched a surprise aerial attack during the early hours, allegedly targeting both civilian and strategic sites in multiple cities of Pakistan. These included urban zones in Punjab province.
In a swift retaliatory response, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) reportedly intercepted and downed five Indian aircraft, including three advanced Rafale jets. Additionally, the Pakistan Army is said to have destroyed several Indian military installations, including a key brigade headquarters.
While there has yet to be an official press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), unconfirmed reports suggest that Indian troops raised a white flag at the Chura complex along the Line of Control (LoC), indicating a possible momentary surrender in the region.
Meanwhile, civilian areas impacted by the hostilities are undergoing emergency rescue and relief operations. Fortunately, no civilian casualties have been confirmed thus far. Local authorities report that rescue teams have been dispatched to assess damage and provide necessary aid.
In light of the heightened threat perception, security measures across Punjab have been significantly reinforced. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to maintain heightened vigilance, while hospitals have been placed on red alert.
Emergency medical services and other essential departments have been directed to ensure round-the-clock readiness to deal with any eventuality. The suspension of government leaves is part of a broader strategy to ensure that the full administrative machinery remains available and responsive during this critical period.
