Following heightened cross-border tensions and recent Indian strikes, Pakistani authorities have restored access to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). The platform had remained largely inaccessible across the country since February 2024.
The original suspension came in the aftermath of the February 2024 general elections, when allegations of electoral fraud sparked nationwide protests. The government cited national security concerns and the need to maintain public order as the basis for the ban.
However, in the aftermath of Tuesday night’s military escalation with India — including missile exchanges — the government decided to lift the restrictions on X.
The restoration of access allows citizens to follow real-time developments and share updates during the ongoing crisis, marking a significant shift in Pakistan’s digital policy amid rising regional instability.
