Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has submitted a petition to the Islamabad High Court, urging the parole-based release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, citing escalating security threats linked to regional tensions with India.
In the petition, Gandapur claims that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi views Imran Khan as his most formidable opponent and could potentially target Adiala Jail with a drone strike in retaliation. “India has carried out drone attacks in various cities, and under the current circumstances, the PTI founder’s life is at serious risk while in custody,” the petition states.
The document also asserts that Imran Khan, during his time as Prime Minister, exposed Modi’s actions on international forums, causing global embarrassment for the Indian leader. The petition argues that continued imprisonment of the PTI founder in politically driven cases violates his fundamental rights.
Citing constitutional provisions, the plea stresses that parole can be granted in situations where a prisoner’s life, health, or safety is endangered. It highlights Imran Khan’s disciplined conduct during incarceration and underscores his declining health as a factor that warrants urgent consideration.
The petition also notes that a formal request was previously submitted to the Punjab Home Department but has yet to receive a response. It calls upon the court to evaluate the matter in light of constitutional rights, international legal standards, and relevant prison regulations.
