Punjab has been placed on high security alert following credible terror threats, as authorities brace for potential attempts to destabilize the province amid ongoing regional tensions.
Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar issued the alert during an awards ceremony at the Central Police Office, warning that hostile forces—defeated on other fronts—may try to disrupt Pakistan’s internal security through targeted acts of terrorism.
Dr. Anwar emphasized that the current strain in Pakistan–India relations has heightened the risk landscape, particularly for law enforcement. He noted that potential targets include sensitive government installations, Chinese residential complexes, and key infrastructure projects.
“The persistent regional tensions mean the threat of terrorism remains serious and imminent,” he stated, adding that police forces across all districts—from Lahore to the remotest areas—have been directed to remain fully vigilant.
A comprehensive review of existing security protocols and deployment strategies has been initiated, with orders for immediate implementation. Increased patrolling and intelligence-gathering efforts are already underway, and Punjab Police are actively coordinating with federal security agencies to ensure the protection of critical sites and maintain public confidence.
